Intel-based MegaFon Mint launches in Russia, available today for about $550

Russian carrier MegaFon has announced its first Intel-powered smartphone, known as the MegaFon Mint. The Android-based handset is available today, for 17,990 rubles (approximately $550).

The Mint is powered by Intel's 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 single core processor, coupled with its XMM 6260 HSPA+ modem — the same components at the core of the Medfield-based Orange San Diego, released earlier this year. The device also includes a 400MHz graphics clock that supports 1080p video, as well as an 8-megapixel camera capable of capturing ten pictures in less than a second, thanks to a built-in "burst mode" feature. Front and center is a 4.03-inch "high resolution" touchscreen display.

MegaFon hasn't specified which version of Android will run on the Mint, though the inclusion of four capacitive buttons certainly doesn't suggest Jelly Bean 4.1. The phone's skin looks strikingly similar to the SPB Mobile Shell, though neither Intel nor MegaFon has confirmed the involvement of SPB Software.
