With the Sony Xperia Z flagship still fresh off its unveiling at CES in January, we are hearing our first whispers of what could possibly be the company’s next flagship. According to the latest report, the Sony Xperia C670X could push a Snapdragon 600 processor at 1.8GHz with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The Android 4.2 handset would be unique for a high-tier smartphone these days. Rumors say it won’t be another 5-inch+ smartphone (like the pictured Xperia Z), but rather one measuring closer to 4.8 inches with 1080p resolution. A 13 MP camera would handle the photo snapping work.

Whether rumor or fact, the specs seem to be about what we expect from this sort of hardware these days. But Sony typically offers great design and build quality, making us eager to get our first look at the phone. When that will, that’s any one’s guess.

The Sony Xperia Z has been confirmed to land in Australia in March and in Europe by the end of February, while the ZL is expected in Canada soon.As in case for pricing ,Clove UK served us with the only tidbit so far, listing the Z for pre-order at a hefty, but not unexpected £528 ($850). Today however we have two new juicy pieces of pricing-related news coming from opposite corners of the world – Australia and Finland.

For some reason, Sony Mobile’s local branch in the land down under continues to be awfully generous with tech-savvy Aussies, revealing not only the carriers set to receive the Xperia Z, but also the phone’s off contract price.Sony Centres are thus ready to offer the 5-inch waterproofer for A$749 in black, white and purple.Of course, some sort of mystery has to stay around, so “further carrier information as well as price plans will be announced soon”.

Now, what can we make of that price? First off, let’s say it translates into around US $792. Pricey, but more than 50 bucks below the British price point. Which is odd, considering that most of the other Sony devices that can be found in both countries are more expensive in Australia.

Intriguing, eh? In any case, let’s get on to Finland as well, where Gigantti is listing the Xperia Z (just in black for now) at €739, or around $980. Ouch, that sounds like it could poke serious holes into some pockets, but, hey, that’s just how Europeans roll. Also, keep in mind that this is just one third-party retailer trying to win some points in Google searches, so that might not be the recommended retail price after all.

While we didn’t expect Samsung to unveil its 2013 flagship device at CES, we certainly waited for Sony to announce its own high-end super Android phone at this year Las Vegas trade show.

And Sony delivered, presenting to the world a very interesting new device, the Xperia Z that was featured in so many rumors in the preceding weeks – you may know it as the Yuga.

Specs and Features

So what is the Xperia Z all about? We’ll show you its most important features now that the handset is official.

•5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2

•13-megapixel Fast Capture camera with Exmor RS for mobile, HDR video, Superior Auto and Noise Reduction to effortlessly capture razor sharp pictures and videos in any conditions

•Dust and water resistant (IP55 & IP57) with a durable glass display

•1.5 GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor

•2GB RAM

•microSD support

•4G LTE support

•NFC support

•Battery STAMINA mode improves standby time by at least 4 times

•Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgradeable to Android 4.2 “shortly after launch”

•Size: 7.9mm thin

The device certainly look interesting, and we’re particularly impressed with that home button that’s placed on the side of the handset, not under the display as you would have expected. Is this an anti-patent action measure?

The much awaited lined up range of gadgets from Sony is not occupied entirely by Sony xperia Z (Yuga) and Sony Xperia ZL (Odin) but the anticipated smartphones will also have to share their Shelf space with extraordinarily powered Sony C530X Smartphone from the company.

Sony C530X which has been spotted sometimes back for the first time has now again managed well to occupy the news space. Sony C530X has now got an appearance in the market with a clearer image along with the confirmation of the placement of the phone in the Upper Midrange segment.

The evidences are not capable enough to paint an accurate image of the forthcoming Smartphone but they indicate that Sony C530X will be powered with a 1.7 GHz Dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960T along with the pairing of the processor with 320 GPU.
The other specifications which have managed to come to the sight of the Tech world includes a Resolution Display of 1280x720 pixels and on-screen virtual Buttons. Sony C530X is speculated to be running on Android 4.1.2
The smartphone from Sony which has also got its name dubbed as “HuaShan”. Many countries including China could witness the launch of the Gadget.

While Google already announced support for pushing YouTube video straight to Google TV devices, the company is now announcing support for the same function on new Smart TVs from LG, Sony, and Panasonic. Owners of Smart TVs from these brands can now use the YouTube smartphone app as a remote control of sorts.

At CES 2013 next week, YouTube will be showing off mobile pairing with a number of new devices from manufacturers like Bang & Olufsen, LG, Panasonic, and Sony. The online streaming video service also expects to have the same feature rolling out on other devices throughout the year, from manufacturers such as Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio, and Western Digital.

This feature gives users instant access to videos and channels from the mobile app directly on their TV. They’ll be able to instantly watch videos they’ve found on their mobile devices, or queue them up to be watched as a playlist. The feature also allows multiple different users on the same network to add to a communal playlist, rather than just relying on one device for control.

We can only imagine this feature picking up more steam as it releases on more and more devices. The ability to queue up YouTube videos on your smartphone, and then push them to your television is something to be desired. Plus, watching YouTube videos is a group affair anyway, and it’s best experienced on the TV in the living room.

With CES so close we can almost touch it, there’s more news leaking out of everywhere and with big global companies like Sony, the leaks are often hard to contain. With so many offices and markets to take care of it’s hard to keep a lid on things entirely. When it comes to the Japanese company, we’ve been hearing a lot about their upcoming phones, codenamed “Yuga” and “Odin” respectively, and their 1080p displays, amongst other things. We now know that the pair of smartphones will be called the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL, nice to see Sony hasn’t ran out of letters just yet, right?

It’s pretty great to see that Sony are bringing a truly up-to-date phone to the market, both the Xperia S and the Xperia TL were phones that had a lot going for them but, ultimately lagged behind the competition. With the Xperia S there was a 4.3″ 1280 x 720 display, but it’s Snapdragon S3 processor really let it down and as for the Xperia TL, to come out with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 when the quad-core S4 pro was making its debut was not good timing for Sony. Both of them were admirable phones, sure but, these were Sony’s flagship devices of 2012 and while keeping the form factor below that 4.7″ marker was nice for a lot of users, they still left a lot to be desired.

With the Xperia Z though, it looks like Sony are ready to bring a flagship to market that will take on everyone else, head-to-head. The Z (that actually sounds pretty cool, “the Zee”) will come a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB of RAM and a stunning 5.0″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) display. All brilliant specs and enough to rival HTC’s Droid DNA on Verizon and if Sony can bring the device to more than just AT&T in the States, they might be able to take some of the market away from Samsung and HTC.

Pricing will be very important as well and while it will more than likely be available on contract for AT&T, according to a fresh leak the device is going to cost 19, 990 Thai Baht which works our at roughly $660 – if Google is to be believed. This is apparently the full price of the device and that seems about right for a device like this from a high-end manufacturer. Pricing should vary from region-to-region and a conversion like this is not a true indicator how much it will cost, I’m hoping that Sony will bring the Xperia Z – and its cousin, the Xperia ZL – at a very affordable price point.

Ladies and gentlemen, here are the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. You may know them better as the Yuga and Odin, and will be formally introduced next week at CES. But that’s a week away, and we live in the here and now. These press shots surfaced at Sony’s Japanese site in the wee hours of the new year and show handsets that appear to match previous leaks.

The Xperia Z will likely be Sony’s flagship handset for the first half of 2012 and is rumored to feature a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processing, and a 13MP camera. The Xperia ZL looks put its own twist on a similar spec sheet, though nothing is confirmed at this time.Sony’s press event will take place next Monday, January 7th, at 5PM local time.

2012 is gone and Sony is gearing up to announce its flagship Android phones for the new year. Two official images managed to slip through the cracks before the January 7 press conference, those of the Sony Xperia Z and the Xperia Odin.

Both images are hosted on SonyMobile.com and in the case of the Xperia Z, the image filename confirms the name (the phone used to be known by its ‘Yuga’ codename).

The Sony Xperia Z will enter the arena with other phones with 5” 1080p screens this year but it also puts Sony into the quad-core race with its Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. The Z will come out with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at launch.

The Xperia Z packs a 12MP camera, which reportedly performs better than the 13MP shooter on the Xperia T. There's a dedicated shutter key.
We found out a lot more details about it from the early preview of a pre-production unit.

Sony Mobile told us a week ago that they’re going to upgrade a bunch of Xperia phones to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean next year, in February or March, Xperia T and its variants included. Although Sony has been known to graciously upgrade its older phones to the latest version of Android, the company does like to take its sweet time.

If you’re wondering how the buttery smooth Jelly Bean will run on the device, check out the video (in Vietnamese) that one lucky owner of the Xperia TL has uploaded.

Aside from the new launcher, the Android 4.1.2 firmware also comes with a new camera feature called the Superior Auto mode, which can be found in Sony’s lineup of digital cameras. Sony has also included a new lock screen and dialer, as well as some audio enhancement features.

Bear in mind that this Jelly Bean firmware is for the developer version of the phone. The final version might be slightly different from what you’re seeing above.
So, what do you think of the JB preview? Let us know in the comments below

A Vietnamese video shows the Sony Xperia TL, currently on Ice Cream Sandwich, running Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. The video also shows a new lock screen, updated launcher, ClearAudio+ mode and an Xperia V-like Superior Auto mode on the 13MP camera. There may still be updates before the final street version but this should give Xperia TL owners a good idea of what’s to come.

Sony has announced a new smartphone application coming to Android devices called Xperia Lounge. Sony describes the app as a new entertainment application with exclusive content and competitions. These span film, music, gaming, and sports. The app is not available to only Xperia devices, so anyone with an Android device can download it and check it out.

That being said, some of the content in the app is limited to just Xperia device owners. VIP content and streaming mobile content cannot be accessed on other Android devices. Other Android users will be able to enjoy the competitions and some other content once they register through Sony, but it makes sense that Sony would want to keep some content exclusive to its device owners.

Owners of Xperia devices will be able to stream exclusive live concerts and behind the scenes footage of movies from the application. Sony is also working out a way for Xperia owners to meet celebrities via the streaming platform. The contests implemented will include prizes such as concerts, movie premieres, and sporting events.

When the app first launches, it will include exclusive Coldplay content and a chance to win tickets to see Swedish House Mafia on their global farewell tour. Down the line, users will get the chance to win tickets to select FIFA events and other awesome stuff. This app definitely has the potential to be cool, and it’s good to see Sony opening some of the features up to all Android users.

This is far from the first time we are hearing rumors about upcoming Sony devices. In fact, we have already been talking about a few that are expected to launch next year. The devices are the Yuga and Odin and they are both expected to debut with a 5-inch display. Based on recent rumors, it looks like Sony is not going to stop with a 5-inch display.

In fact, chatter coming from IT168 suggests that we may be seeing a Sony device with a 6-inch display in the latter part of 2013. And sure, that seems like a big display and a long time away at this point, however based on the current trend — a 6-inch display may be the norm at that point. Aside from a 6-inch display size, this handset is also expected to bring a 3,500 mAh battery and 3GB of RAM.

Otherwise, some of the other leaked details point towards another handset with a 5-inch display. This one is said to be 1080p and also featuring a 16 megapixel camera, 3GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. This device is expected to be announced sometime around October of next year. In other words, we have some time before any of this will likely be officially announced.

Moving past these two devices, there is also talk of one more, though the specs on this one are not quite as exciting sounding. This last device is said to have a 720p display along with a MSM8960T processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 1,800 mAh battery and a 12 megapixel camera.
