At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2013 at  Barcelona,LG has unveiled a new wireless charger which it claims is the smallest of all such devices available across the world.LG appears to be a standard table coaster in design and  its dimensions are 6.9 cm in diameter. But, despite its small size, it possesses a charging surface which is 1.7 times wider than the previous generation wireless charger available from the manufacturer.

The WCP-300 offers top class charging capabilities coupled with portability at the same time. Drawing its power through a 5-pin micro USB connection, this mobile accessory is certified by the Wireless Power Consortium. It will be compatible with any smart device that offers support to the Consortium standard.

This LG wireless charger works with any 5-pin micro USB charger and also exhibits Qi wireless charging feature.

South Korea will be the first market to witness the arrival of the WCP-300 wireless charger with the release of the accessory scheduled this week. However, it is expected to hit the store shelves of the global markets soon. It is expected to be priced around $60.

Before the commencement of the Mobile World Congress, LG was speculated to showcase some Optimus smartphones at the event and of course it did that. The introduction of the wireless charger seems to be a boon for the smartphones users.

LG’s update to their Optimus G handset released last fall looks primed for release in Japan, according to a series of leaks. Dubbed the Optimus G Pro, the device features several improvements over the original including a 5-inch 1080p display. Other specs listed are a 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, 13MP camera, and 3000mAh battery. It will launch with Android 4.1.

The leak in question pegs the Optimus G Pro for a launch on NTT DoCoMo in two color options, Platinum White and Indigo Black. Given the phone’s overall design, the G Pro comes across as more of a iterative update rather than a true sequel.

The specs don’t quite jive with rumors we have heard related to an Optimus G2. Sources have said that phone would feature a 5.5-inch display and could launch next fall running Android’s unannounced Key Lime Pie version out of the box. It could be that LG is taking a Samsung-esque approach with their G series.

While Google already announced support for pushing YouTube video straight to Google TV devices, the company is now announcing support for the same function on new Smart TVs from LG, Sony, and Panasonic. Owners of Smart TVs from these brands can now use the YouTube smartphone app as a remote control of sorts.

At CES 2013 next week, YouTube will be showing off mobile pairing with a number of new devices from manufacturers like Bang & Olufsen, LG, Panasonic, and Sony. The online streaming video service also expects to have the same feature rolling out on other devices throughout the year, from manufacturers such as Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio, and Western Digital.

This feature gives users instant access to videos and channels from the mobile app directly on their TV. They’ll be able to instantly watch videos they’ve found on their mobile devices, or queue them up to be watched as a playlist. The feature also allows multiple different users on the same network to add to a communal playlist, rather than just relying on one device for control.

We can only imagine this feature picking up more steam as it releases on more and more devices. The ability to queue up YouTube videos on your smartphone, and then push them to your television is something to be desired. Plus, watching YouTube videos is a group affair anyway, and it’s best experienced on the TV in the living room.

With CES around the corner, it seems that smartphones with screens larger than 5-inches is the hot trend lately. As always is the case around CES, the rumor mill is buzzing with rumors about what will be unveiled at CES next week. It is rumored that South Korea-based LG Electronics will be unveiling their newest flagship device, the Optimus G2 at CES in the coming days. The device is rumored to have a 5.5-inch 1080p (Full HD) screen, and sporting a Qualcomm quad-core S4 Prime MSM8974 chip.

LG isn’t the only one who is planning on releasing a phone of this size, it is rumored that China-based Huawei is also planning on unveiling the Ascend D2 with HiSilicon’s quad-core processor and a 13-megapixel rear camera, along with the Ascend Mate. I wrote an article on the rumored Ascend Mate last week, you can find it here. The Ascend Mate is rumored to have a 6.1-inch 1080p screen, a quad-core 1.8GHz chip and a massive 4,000mAh battery.

Sony Mobile Communications is holding a press conference on January 7th to introduce its new Xperia Z, which is said to have the same panel resolution and processor as HTC’s Butterfly/Droid DNA, but with a better camera. It certainly looks like there is going to be a battle for the best 5-inch smartphone in 2013.

I personally have never believed that devices of this size would sell, but Samsung has proven me wrong with their successful Galaxy Note & more recently their Galaxy Note II. I still don’t believe that these devices will ever become as mainstream as the current 4 to 5-inch devices, but I suppose only time will tell. With so many device manufacturers unveiling devices with larger screens, perhaps I’ll be proven wrong again. Market Observers believe that sales of 5-inch (or larger) smartphones among total smartphone sales will increase from under 5% in 2012, to between 10-15% in 2013. What is your opinion on this new trend of smartphones with larger devices? Do you currently own one, or thinking of purchasing one? Let us know in the comments section below.

Looks like LG is preparing quite a show for the upcoming CES. The rumors we’ve got suggest the Korean company will unveil few awesome devices in Las Vegas, including the new 4.7-inch smartphone, 5.5-inch phablet and a 7-inch tablet.

The first device on the list (smartphone) will apparently feature a super-thin (1mm) bezel around the screen, making it more compact that comparable models from other handset makers.

The 5.5-inch full HD phablet could be the Optimus G2 we’ve been talking about in the past. It’s apparently going to be LG’s flagship device for 2013, competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Note II.

Finally, we may see a 7-inch tablet from LG. What will make this device unique is its screen with 1920×1200 pixels resolution. That’s 324ppi pixel density that will effectively make it the most reader-friendly 7-inch tablet out there.

In addition, the Korean company will also be showing new computers and TVs, but that’s something we don’t care a lot at IntoMobile. You can get that information from other sources…

LG has been focused on reducing their carbon footprint for years, and while many other companies have made similar claims, few have had the kind of success that LG is currently experiencing. Today, LG announced that six of their products have been awarded CarbonFree certification, a major milestone for the company in their endeavors to eliminate as much harmful waste as possible from their production process. The organizing foundation, Carbonfund.org, are considered a leading authority on global warming and the evaluation of individuals and businesses concerning their global carbon footprint.
Which product lines made the cut for this prestigious award?

•LG Optimus G Smartphone

•LG OLED TV’s

•LG Washing Machines

•LG Refrigerators

•LG Computer Monitors

•LG Vacuum Cleaners

Despite this impressive showing, this list is actually one field short compared to last year. To get the certification, the products are put through an extensive lifespan analysis, which determines the overall carbon footprint of a product spanning from manufacturing to shipment, then usage and finally to disposal. The LG Optimus G isn’t the first Android smartphone from the company to receive the CarbonFree certification, the Mach LS860 has also received similar recognition. The Optimus G successor, due sometime next year, is likely to also receive the CarbonFree certification, creating a tradition of certification in the Optimus family

Looking at the press center for LG it becomes clear how dedicated the company is to producing environmentally friendly products. Like any other company involved in the manufacturing of complicated electronics products there is a considerable amount of industrial waste, but efforts to reduce that level are vital to the environmental health of the planet. Other recent environmentally geared announcements from the company include.

Samsung isn’t the only one trashing Apple’s iPhone in its ads with LG joining this trend, too. According to Korea Times, the ad above has been posted in all major local media in Korea, depicting LG Optimus G as it slices through a bitten apple. The text says “a moment’s choice will decide your next two years,” suggesting that if you want to sign a two-year carrier contract you better be sure to get a device that will keep you up and running for two years.
But that’s not all – there are also posters in stores with phrases like “iPhone 5? Really disappointing”, adding that the 4-inch screen is “too small” and that it lacks NFC and DMB-TV (mobile TV), which is like a must-have feature in Korea.

LG, however, denies attacking Apple saying that it just offers facts. And while I’m an Android guy, I think those are intentionally selected facts which for instance don’t mention the number of apps and games available for each of the platforms.

Grrr, just when we though we had the Optimus G successor all squared away, and filed its rumored specs on the "upcoming" shelf waiting for the first spy shots, now the screen got watered regularly, and grew to 5.5 inches.

The previous rumor was for a 5" Full HD display, like the one on the Droid DNA, with 440ppi density. This is entirrely plausible, since LG has demonstrated such screen of its own making numerous times. The other specs included a 2 GHz quad-core of the Snapdragon S4 family, 2 GB of RAM, 13 MP camera, and a 3rd-gen LTE radio inside.
These stay in the new rumor, but the 1920x1080 pixels screen goes up to 5.5", with the Korean manufacturer changing its mind on the fly about the screen, claims the Korean newspaper source. The article implies that the phone will hit retail before June next year, and the screen size decision has something to do with the Galaxy S IV launch, which is expected to show up with a 5" Full HD display of its own.
