Next year promises an incredible number of new devices to choose from. Samsung has been keeping the Android news sites busy lately with all the many, varied rumors of its new or planned mobile devices. The GT-N5100 is the latest to float back to the top of the bubbling rumor pool and is what many believe to be the codename for the unannounced Galaxy Note 7 tablet.
The GT-N5100 was spotted a few months ago in Wi-Fi and DLNA certifications along with the GT-N5110 which possibly means a Wi-Fi only device and one that will carry a cellular plan. The NenaMark 2 benchmark result created more buzz earlier this month and confirmed a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, Mali-400 MP GPU and a display of 1280 X 720
The possible Galaxy Note 7 showed up again in a GLBenchmark result showing the device will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and with a 1.6 GHz Exynos 4412 processor and a 1280 X 800 display resolution. Unfortunately no official announcement or tiny peep by Samsung has followed. But with CES 2013 in just over two weeks and a teaser trailer by Samsung promising they will reveal something big, this could be one more thing to keep an eye out for at the technology show. Then again, it’s possible that Samsung will wait until February’s MWC 2013 to show off the GT-N5100 and give it an official name. Either way, I will be looking for yet more bait to use for rumor-fishing.
The price of the GT-N5100 will be an important factor in deciding its future rivals. Both ACER and ASUS are believed to be releasing more affordable 7-inch tablets in the next few months. The Nexus 7 might soon be selling for $99, which makes it completely affordable to pick up another one or three, unless Samsung can manage to turn heads with a new and better tablet. But it will take quite the tablet to make this girl give up her much loved Nexus 7.
