Google’s brand new flagship Nexus 7 tablet has officially launched today. It started shipping yesterday from various UK retailers, Gamestop in the US started sending out confirmations that those who pre-ordered could pick theirs up, and Google’s Play Store has begun shipping all pre-orders as of this afternoon. 

We are now seeing multiple retailers and sites across the US already selling out — which is a good sign for Google but a bad sign if you haven’t ordered one yet. Google unveiled the 7-inch tablet, which the company hopes will allow it to better compete against Apple Inc and Amazon.com Inc and funnel more people into its trove of online content, at its annual developer conference in San Francisco at the end of June.

Consumers have been able to pre-order the tablet from Google and several retailers in past weeks, and Google said it began shipping devices to consumers on Friday.

"We blew through the first two allotments," a GameStop spokesperson said.

A third allotment of pre-orders will be available in August. The game retailer declined to share exact number of pre-orders.

The Nexus 7 uses Google's Android mobile software, which has become the most prevalent operating system for smartphones globally, but has so far failed to make a big splash in the tablet market.It’s safe to say that on the first day of “availability” the new Google and ASUS Nexus 7 tablet is selling extremely well — which should hardly be a surprise. Being the first tablet with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, while also rocking a quad-core processor all for $199 it’s hard to pass up. We are still waiting for official details from the multiple UK retailers carrying the tablet. Although the first to start shipping was Ebuyer, and it appears they still have plenty. The Google Nexus 7 has sold out at several retailers on its first day of availability.




According to Reuters, GameStop has confirmed that it is completely sold out of its Nexus 7 inventory and doesn’t expect to have the device back in stock until August. The company says that it went through both of its two allotments of the device although the retailer declined to share just how many devices it had sold.




Two other Nexus 7 retailers, Sam’s Club and Staples, both show that the Nexus 7 is out of stock on their websites. Another retailer, Office Depot, still has stock remaining although that stock will likely become extinct in the not-so-distant future.




Google’s website still lists the device as being up for pre-order and still lists it as shipping out in 1-2 weeks.The news comes shortly after Google started shipping the device out to those who pre-ordered the 7-inch tablet. The device has been available for pre-order since the company announced the Nexus 7 at its Google I/O developers conference at the end of June.




Those who pre-ordered through Google between Google I/O and today will see their devices shipped out within the next three days.
