Here’s one of those tablets that could help push the whole category toward the mainstream users. The newly launched VT10 has been launched by India’s Videocon, offering a 10.1-inch tablet that runs Jelly Bean for 11,200 Rupees, the amount that translates into about $205. I would say that’s a rather good deal since this baby can run (practically) the latest version of Android.

Specs wise, the VT10 rocks Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, while that IPS screen comes with resolution of 1280×800 pixels. There are also dual 2-megapixel cameras (one on the back and the other one on the front), Wi-Fi connectivity, optional 3G (with a dongle), HDMI out and a 6,800 mAh battery.

Pretty cool when you think about it. If you live in India, you can get the VT10 from here. And no, we’ve no idea whether this baby will ever be available in the Western hemisphere.

Hot on the heels of the Jelly Bean update for the Excite 7.7, Toshiba is also pushing the OTA to its larger brother, the Excite 10. Reports are scattered and details are pretty scant at the moment, but we have confirmed that it's rolling out now.

It appears that the OTA – which brings Android 4.1.1 – is being pushed in stages to both the AT300 and AT305. You can see if it's available on your device by heading into Settings > About Tablet > System Updates or by jumping directly into Toshiba's Service Station.

Sony Mobile told us a week ago that they’re going to upgrade a bunch of Xperia phones to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean next year, in February or March, Xperia T and its variants included. Although Sony has been known to graciously upgrade its older phones to the latest version of Android, the company does like to take its sweet time.

If you’re wondering how the buttery smooth Jelly Bean will run on the device, check out the video (in Vietnamese) that one lucky owner of the Xperia TL has uploaded.

Aside from the new launcher, the Android 4.1.2 firmware also comes with a new camera feature called the Superior Auto mode, which can be found in Sony’s lineup of digital cameras. Sony has also included a new lock screen and dialer, as well as some audio enhancement features.

A Vietnamese video shows the Sony Xperia TL, currently on Ice Cream Sandwich, running Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. The video also shows a new lock screen, updated launcher, ClearAudio+ mode and an Xperia V-like Superior Auto mode on the 13MP camera. There may still be updates before the final street version but this should give Xperia TL owners a good idea of what’s to come.

If there's one thing you can say about Samsung, it's that the company is at least trying to push out updates, with a sizeable number of devices already running Jelly Bean. Sure, it's 4.1 and about six months behind the Nexus baseline, but the company is better than most manufacturers about rolling out updates lately. As if to demonstrate this, the Wi-Fi Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8010) has started to receive Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (JRO03C) to owners of said tablet in Germany.

XDA users in Germany are reporting that the update is rolling out to their devices right now. No word yet on when or if this will roll out to any other countries, but we imagine that slates unbound by carrier restrictions will see it sooner rather than later.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has started getting upgrades to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. For the moment this upgrade will be limited to users in UK, other regions to follow soon. Depending on the Samsung upgrading history in context to India, we assume the upgrade will soon head to India as well.

The new upgrade comes with a good number of performance and UI improvements like improved orientation, browser performance, camera UI, better notification management etc. This upgrade will also enable the tablet to support the USB audio docks. With improved UI, the device will be able to run more power efficiently and will result in to a better battery backup. After the upgrade Samsung Galaxy Note Tab 2 will be able to enjoy many features of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as well.

There is no word on Jellybean update for the device. With Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 offering advanced versions of a Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, Samsung might have to work upon further upgrades sooner.

Sony and LG are surprising few but disappointing plenty with confirmation that several devices apiece won’t be getting new versions of the OS. For Sony, it’s the Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro which have reached the end of the update line, with no chance of an official Jelly Bean release. However, the news is arguably even worse for some LG users, who still aren’t even on Ice Cream Sandwich.The Optimus Black will not be receiving the ICS upgrade” LG Canada said in a statement last week on Twitter. “The original upgrade announcement was a general statement issued from HQ.” A similar message was tweeted about the Optimus 2X the day earlier.

Sony, meanwhile, used Facebook to deliver the bad news. UK product manager John Cooper revealed that neither then arc S nor the mini pro would be eligible for Jelly Bean, though gave no specific reasons for that decision. However, he did rub it in somewhat with the promise that Sony is “always developing new phones and making sure they get the latest updates.”

The disappointment may not end there, though. Sony says it’s “currently reviewing which handsets are the best for the Jelly Bean update” from its 2012 Xperia line-up, opening up the possibility that some of the more recent flagships might not move beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
