The firm will keep its 14-passanger jet, but it looks like upper management might be flying in less style in the future as RIM tries to save $1 billion in operating costs this year alone.
With heavy cuts being made and analysts fearing the worst for the company's success, RIM's new marketing chief, Frank Boulben, was remarkably upbeat about the recently announced delay of BlackBerry 10, which many saw as the potential saviour of the company. The short delay is not detrimental if the quality is there when we launch early next year,” Boulben told Reuters. “We will have much more attention and focus and ability to leverage our carriers.”
Of course, Boulben's job is to make the company look good, so it is not entirely surprising that he is putting a positive spin on things. The “short” delay is from late 2012 to early 2013, missing out on the lucrative Christmas period, and the company may not be able to wait that long if things continue to decline.
